Browser support

The EyeDropper API is supported in Chromium-based browsers — Chrome 95+, Edge 95+, Opera, and Brave. Firefox and Safari do not support it, so on those browsers the button above is disabled and the photo fallback below is the recommended path.

No screen picker? Pick from a photo instead

If you can't sample your screen, open theimage color picker, upload a screenshot or photo, and click any pixel — the result is the same exact color code.

How to pick a color from your screen

Picking a color straight from your screen is the fastest way to match a color you see anywhere — another website, a design tool, a video, or your desktop wallpaper. Click Pick From Screen, move the loupe over the pixel you want, and click. The color is captured instantly with all its color values.

How the browser eyedropper works

The browser's EyeDropper API opens a native screen-sampling overlay. Your cursor becomes a magnified loupe showing the exact pixel under it, and the moment you click, the browser reports that pixel's color as an sRGBHex value. Everything is processed locally — nothing you sample is ever sent to a server.

Compatibility notes

The screen eyedropper requires Chromium (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera). On Firefox and Safari the button is unavailable — instead, take a screenshot and load it into theimage color picker to sample any pixel from the capture. This page intentionally does not claim the feature works where the browser does not support it.

Once you have a color, convert it to any format with thecolor converteror build a palette with thepalette generator.

Screen color picker FAQ

How do I pick a color from my screen?▼

Click Pick From Screen, hover the magnified loupe over any pixel on your monitor, and click. The color and its HEX, RGB, RGBA, and HSL values appear instantly.

Why doesn't the eyedropper work in my browser?▼

The screen eyedropper uses the EyeDropper API, which is only available in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera). Firefox and Safari don't support it — use a screenshot with the image color picker instead.

Can I pick a color from another application?▼

Yes. Because the eyedropper samples the whole screen, you can capture pixels from any visible application, window, or document — not just the web page you're on.

Is the screen color picker private?▼

Completely. The eyedropper runs locally in your browser and no pixels are ever transmitted anywhere.
